I've read some reviews of Susan Bates crochet hooks. Apart from the price there is no difference for me. Cheaper ones worked just as well

I have always loved crocheting Susan Bates. That was the hook I was taught with when I was in high school. I still love using this brand. good needle.

I used #10 line on this hook, the 'neck' of the hook seems to have some extra material making it difficult to catch and gently pull the common thread through your work. Because it's so small, not much is enough, so I removed the excess and it works really well. I've been using this for a few hours too (still on my first project) and where I place my thumb it's discolored which is weird. It doesn't look like it's going to come loose, but hopefully it's purely aesthetic. I would still buy again.
