Very nice - 3. Suunto

The watch is great. This is my third Suunto. A little big, but for exercise, not fashion. For those with small wrists and a strap that is too "hard” the strap for Suunto Ambit Vertical for Suunto 9 is suitable, it is softer and more flexible. The location of the pin holes is exactly the same. Stylus size 9 is larger so Ambit's smaller vertical stylus snaps in easily. And delivers the best heart rate readings.

Pros
  • Great for me

I like Suunto watches but was very disappointed

I've had my eye on this watch for a long time. I loved the outdoor features and wanted something to track heart rate, steps, etc. Finally I decided to treat myself and bought one. Well I was disappointed. You literally move your hand and it counts the steps. When I first put the watch on my wrist, it counted over 20 steps just by putting the watch on while sitting. I sent it back and bought an Apple Watch instead.

No accuracy in GPS running units

After switching from the Apple Watch 3, the Suunto 9 Baro was a big disappointment. - heart rate readings are useless - when running/cycling with a heart rate of 140+ it reads 70-90 - step count is very inaccurate - it counts steps while I'm standing - ascent data is a joke - it reads 4000m and up in the 200m- Climbing training - sleep tracking is a joke - pool training has no autopause function - the Android app has no detailed view for triathlon mode - and much more.

Pros
  • Consistent results in testing

  • Safety

It was bittersweet.

Used this watch for five weeks. That was great. From indoor swimming to lifting weights to running uphill. It was there for all my study needs. Then in June 2019 a firmware update came out. Since the watch broke, I sent it in for repair. It has been a month and a half and the watch has not yet been repaired. I called customer service and they said I still have 2-4 weeks to wait because there has been a spike in watch returns. Two months later I finally received a new watch in the mail. Save…

Smart notifications + inaccurate pedometer

First of all, I really like the look of this watch. I like the interface and the app, but I need an accurate watch that can do basic functions for me. I returned this (after contacting Suunto support) within a few days because I couldn't get any smart notifications beyond plain text and calls. In addition, the pedometer is extremely inaccurate. You can move your arms without walking and it counts steps as if you are walking. At least to say that I'm quite a lazybones. After months of research…

Charging issues Suunto Baro 9

Product performance is good, but charging issues occur regularly. You plug in the cable and it won't charge. After several attempts, it suddenly starts loading again. It's very unpredictable. After charging $600, this kind of problem is very discouraging. I doubt I will buy a Suunto watch again. I live in Nigeria so it is not possible to send the watch back and forth for service or repair and pay the shipping cost (already spent $100 shipping to get the watch here). I wish the company would do…

Excellent fitness watch, excellent battery life, ease of use

The 9 G1 Baro is a lightweight made of titanium. I mainly use the watch for cycling and hiking. Battery life was excellent, lasting over a week depending on what I'm doing. If you decide to buy this watch I would only recommend downloading the Suunto app on your phone and not downloading the Movescount app on your phone. I'm having trouble syncing my watch with Movescount on my iPhone, especially after syncing with Suunto app. When you connect your watch to your computer via a USB connection…

wow what Suunto 9

That Sunnto even put that name on a watch like this is a nod to the crap that's being made today. See I can understand the software issues but this thing is a legal torment I think it's ok if he takes measurements whenever he wants if I wanted that kind of reliability I'd ask 300 less and a take Samsung. The heat monitor worked great for three days. Barely works and no settings. The compass cannot be accessed quickly. The battery lasted longer when my watch was wound. The screen itself has the…

Still in beta? in Sports & Handheld GPS

Very disappointed after using this watch for 3-4 runs. I previously had Suunto Ambit 1 and Ambit 3 Peak and really liked them. I switched to the Suunto 9 because of the longer battery life and some other nice improvements. Unfortunately, there seem to be some serious issues with this watch. On my first long run, which was actually a 100 mile run, the Suunto 9 ran 121 miles, over 20% less distance. It's completely inaccurate and it looks like the GPS feature wasn't active for some reason…
