A very bulky ExpressCard USB hub (not a USB host).

I was trying to find a device that acts as a USB2 host and not just a hub to ensure compatibility in a situation where I don't have USB3 support (only USB3 is on my system) This device is a simple concentrator. It uses the USB port in the ExpressCard slot as an upstream port and provides two downstream ports. It does not provide USB host; it uses the one already built into your device. He is clumsy; It has an uncomfortably large and unwieldy protrusion at the end of the card that doesn't seem…

Syba 2 Serial RS232 Ports 34mm ExpressCard SD-EXP15010

The Syba SD-EXP15010 is a quick and easy way to add serial ports to my Sony VAIO VPCF13 laptop (Win 7 64-bit). I downloaded the latest drivers from the site provided in the documentation and everything worked as expected. The SD-EXP15010 is a great product for the money. As with most ExpressCard, CardBus, and PCMCIA devices, care must be taken not to bend the connector shell where it connects to the card.

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • Slightly Torn

Not supported on newer Linux versions.

Bought to set up Cisco equipment with my laptop. My laptop is running Fedora 16 (Kernel 3.2). While the description says this is supported on Linux, support appears to be very limited. Only kernel 2.4 or 2.6 are supported. The drivers on the CD didn't work either. The makefile contains references to init that were not used in several versions (the current version uses systemd). The readme file states that the drivers have been tested with Red Hat 9.0 and Fedora 2-7. If you're using one of the…

Works best in Computer Components

On Windows Enterprise 64. Drivers were on disk. Installed with no problems but I had to search for the correct drivers. It did not automatically detect and install the correct drivers from the hard drive. Was able to connect the console to two Cisco devices at the same time with no weird crashes or lag like I have with a USB device. I agree with other reviewers when I say it seems far fetched. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. But for the price it's worth it!

Useless (waste of time and money)

I bought this express card to have USB 3.0 in my old DELL Studio XPS 1640 laptop. When I opened the packaging, the first impression of this card was not very good. I put it in my Express slot hoping the drivers would install automatically, but my Windows 7 couldn't see the device. I used the CD that came with this card to install the driver but nothing happened. Then I searched online for the latest drivers for this device and installed it, but even then the card was not recognized and my…

It works for some applications, not for others

Updated 2/2/15. I recently attempted to use this card to provide a serial port for a Ham Radio Packet Station, but the port just blocked my TNC. Switched to RS232/USB adapter with FTDI chip, everything works fine now. This card is useful for other jobs that require less data, such as B. Radio programming, so I changed the rating to 3 stars. Might fit what you need. This did exactly what I needed - adding two serial ports to a newer laptop so I could program Icom commercial radios. Windows 7…

Smoke! (and not for the better)

I bought this to upgrade my Dell Studio 1555 to support USB 3.0. Installation was a breeze, as was downloading the drivers (I downloaded them from the manufacturer as I have a DVD drive slot and don't like putting those minidiscs in there). Windows 7 recognized it as a USB 3.0 port in Device Manager, so I plugged in the hard drive. After about a minute I felt something caustic and saw smoke literally coming out of the card! I pulled out the card and it was hot enough to cause pain. I was a…

Works great with the EQ mount

I bought this to control a Celestron cg5-gt equatorial mount. This allows you to use 2 ports which I will use later when I buy a second telescope mount. If you have Express Port 3/4 and cannot connect an RS232 serial port, then this adapter is for you. Drivers work fine on 64-bit Vista. I couldn't ask for more.

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Syba 2x Serial RS232 Ports 34mm ExpressCard SD-EXP15010

This review refers to "Syba 2x Serial RS232 Ports 34mm ExpressCard SD-EXP15010". I needed to log activity from two serial ports simultaneously at high speed on a Win7 x64 laptop. Using a dual port USB serial adapter (probably based on FTDI) resulted in a blue screen after just a few minutes. This Cardbus-based adapter worked without any problems. worth 25 dollars. The adapter is also said to support Linux, but I haven't had a chance or need to test this.

  • New in my collection
