Inaccurate and the clamp does not work properly

The clamp does not easily attach to the pot wall. I also burned my sugar on the first batch of candy I tried to make. It read 305 but looked like it was on fire. I put in my instant read thermometer and the sugar was over 330. The display also turns off after a few minutes so you have to turn it back on while you work. All in all, not a great product.

Great candy thermometer

Great candy thermometer. Much easier to use than the "old school" I used. Seems very accurate as all my recipes have turned out great. Some reviews mention that it's very heavy and falls off easily. That may be true, but it turns out the clamp is pretty strong. With thicker lollipops that were cooked, I found that holding the thermometer while stirring solved the problem and was no inconvenience. All in all I highly recommend it.

Cons
  • Nothing here

I bought this to make caramel because I wanted accurate temperature readings. I made 3 batches and the caramels came out as expected. However, the adjustable head makes the device extremely heavy. Caramel needs to be stirred, which will raise the temperature. The clamp doesn't hold the pan firmly on the stove, so the slightest touch of the probe on the cooking spoon causes the device to tip sideways and bounce from pan to stove. This has happened twice on every batch I've made - and yes I've…

A few nice features but cumbersome/inconvenient

Simple and I love the large digital tilt head - once you position it the way you want it's easy to see. However, it would help if the tilt function had a ratchet that provides positive clicks to keep it in place. In addition, the auto-off function works too quickly for me - it takes time for the contents to reach a certain temperature. I know there is a downside to being able to turn it off, but that would help. My biggest problem with this and other similar thermometers is that the probe is…

It works, but with some limitations.

I wanted a digital replacement for my old glass candy/roasting thermometer. This works, but there are several problems. It's embarrassing. The clamp is thin and heavy at the top so it will move unless you are using a very tall pot. The plastic body gets very hot either from the boiling contents of the pot or from the heat radiated from the burner around the pot. Not a disaster yet, but I'm nervous. For accuracy, I've compared it to a traditional glass candy thermometer and a digital laser…
