I recently bought one of these Taylor 5873 timers and found it to be completely inaudible - the pitch is so high (4000Hz ). it sounds like a dog whistle, only women, children and dogs can hear it. The Thermoworks model has a deeper tone at 2000Hz, which is much better for the elderly. So skip it and look for lower alarm level timers, even if they aren't as loud.

Bought for our 7 year old daughter who needs time for activities. It's easy enough to use. (3 buttons total - press top and bottom to reset, top adds minutes, bottom adds seconds, middle starts and stops). It has a small stand to sit on by itself (or a magnet, but we haven't used it that way) and the viewer is large enough to be read from about 3 feet away. I like that it's REALLY LOUD and CONTINUE beeping until you stop. For me that was the main reason for the purchase. My oven beeps 4-5 times, not very loud, then stops. This timer is great, doesn't let you forget to turn off the oven etc. Just a minor problem resetting. Sometimes I have trouble resetting to zero after locating something. I was trying to find a silent timer small enough to stay on my desk and take breaks that fits in my bag. While not huge, it's more than I would like. I also want it to have a memory or time setting feature so if I want it to keep the time I set, if I want it to keep my previously set time, I have to start the timer and let it run to completion let it go and if i stop it it comes back. I'm in my 60's and can't hear as well as I used to, also my oven's built in timer is so quiet you can't hear it from upstairs can (and sometimes not even heard from the living room when the TV is on).
