We got them for use with pick and drop cups with straws. Our kids chew straws that come with cups. They are flexible so you can't mess them up. They also provide a great seal in the lid, which helps with spills and isn't easy for children to pull out. I even use them in my coffee mug sometimes because they work for that too!

I was looking for a soft straw for my one and a half year old twins. They're thick and easy to clean, have a beveled end so they don't stick to the bottom of the mug, and have been a hit so far. I bought the previous version of this straw. They were all so hard to fit into Take-n-Toss cups. This new version has fixed the problems. They can all be easily thrown through the holes in children, but still firm enough that when my 4 year old holds a straw in his mouth and dangles the cup as he walks, the cup doesn't fall off.
