Very thorough algae filtering. Initially, you may want to brush them twice a day, and the clearer the water gets, the less. I've always liked mechanical filtration best because it does the best job with the least water loss.

The filter itself is good, but I don't like that it is sold as a kit because the "black” filter breaks easily and needs to be changed more often. So if this is sold separately I could just buy the one that needs replacing instead of buying the whole set each time.

I love this product and have been using it in my pond filter for as long as I've had my pond. Where I originally bought this item the price went up so much that until I found it at Revain I had to use it before when it needed replacing. Hopefully it's always available on the Revain website.

As other reviewers have noted, the rough blue filter pad is good, but the black portion is quite thin. I like rinsing and reusing filter pads and with great care I was able to rinse and reuse the black pad a few times without it falling apart. But after a month of use, the black pad finally broke so much that it just stuck to the Bioballs and became unusable.
