Meets expectations of portable GPS modules

Good product, with tom tom. I don't have to worry about getting lost. Didn't put it on the dashboard. Does not stay on the windshield and often falls out. I still haven't found a seat for Tom Tom so I just leave him on the seat.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Outdated

But that's fine. in Sports & Handheld GPS

This is an older device so the software loaded on it is from 2006. I only bought it in July 2008. For those looking for the very latest maps out of the box, this isn't the device for you. I bought it to replace the Magellan Roadmate. It has some nice features, but it could use some of the ones Magellan had, like multiple users and easier access to volume controls.

Pros
  • cool product

Happy Traveler: Sports and Handheld GPS

We love this item! We bought it for a cross country holiday and it was a dream come true. He found us in the wilderness and we never got lost. In the beginning it took a few resets for our iPod to be recognized, kept the correct time and generally behaved; but since 9 weeks it works perfectly. We affectionately call our 510 "Mikey" after a custom Cockney voice we downloaded. It took a lot of the stress out of driving.

Not happy with GPS, finders and accessories

I was disappointed in my TomTom for a number of reasons; so many that I don't even know where to start. Possibly Ben and Jerry at the POI for Mammoth Lakes, California when we were on vacation and happened to be in the middle of an apartment complex (maybe they have an apartment there?). Similar results for a number of other POIs. Something works, something doesn't. Site navigation is difficult. Support is not easy to come by. The plug of the power adapter falls out of the docking station very…

  • Free for educational purposes

  • Definitely bad product

Thing Works - Portable GPS Devices

Contrary to many reports, the thing doesn't work. This GPS really works and works very well. It has a nice 4 inch wide screen that shows the route in great detail. There are also many options that can be disabled and enabled. When I first turned it on, it took me about 2-3 minutes to get a signal, which felt like a year to me. However, restarts take much less time and the POI database works much better than POI in the previous generation of TomTom. There is one complaint though, the car mount…

Warning: TomTom is in trouble

I am writing to alert readers to problems with the GO 510 and with TomTom's customer service. Possibly due to their decision to put the entire US and Canada on the same SD, they appear to have reduced the number of points of interest (POIs). Missing shops for example. Try to find somewhere near a friend's house to buy a bottle of wine or a book and you'll be out of luck. I don't know what else was removed from the previous version. The cards are also affected. The latest maps can't find the…

Fiction! suitable for sports and portable GPS

No moving parts (hard disk) to wear out. The written instructions are a bit lacking for my generation, but once I figured out how to activate all the icons, I was in business. I mounted my 510 on the floor hub between the seats, with a piece of plexiglass tucked between the heater and the carpet. I wrapped the removed antenna around the dash and tucked the wire in the slots. I use audio guidance more than a visual map. The first trip was from northern Indiana to central Florida. The 510 had two
