Not as good as originals

I have an old vise grip that my dad gave me, probably about 30 years old. They are not comparable in quality. Installation and termination below the base. These pliers are thin and twist, unlike their predecessors. The originals that I received from my father are clearly marked "Made in the USA". These pliers don't have that proud mark. This is evidenced by the quality of the instrument.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Like bad scissors, they move from side to side.

The pliers wobble a lot when in use. For a tool designed to block, that doesn't give me much confidence. It also meant the wire cutting area was not working properly, creating a jagged, sharp edge on the wire and often not cutting at all. I was able to focus and squeeze the handles just right to align the tips of the pliers, but I prefer to focus on the job rather than the tool.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

Savior! for pliers

Small enough to fit where regular grippers won't! We had to replace a bushing on the front suspension and we had to reinstall a few bolts to get it right. They did the job of holding the front stabilizer bar in place while we put the screw in the other end of the hole! This was the kind of repair that slips when you have nothing to hold it in place while you work alone to align the front stabilizer bar bushings and bolts while trying to tighten one bolt at a time. . This Dodge Charger was…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Not sure
