Description of Topeak Presta Valve Extender

Precision-machined aircraft aluminum is strong and lightweight. Adds length so you access the valve for inflation when running deep-section wheels. Rod inside valve extender engages valve's lock nut so you can close valve to prevent leakage. Doesn't require removal of valve core. Fits rims up to 90mm deep.

Type of review

Worked great - easy to use and you can open/close the pipe valve - only downside is they're a little pricey - just got 40 miles on them driven - zero effort. Unfold the cardboard "back" and read the instructions - this is a really great product - I ordered a regular size for my 50mm wheels.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Good mostly but...

Nice to have when you need them

I just bought a bike with high profile wheels and have a supply of short stem tubes. I bought these valve extenders just in case I have an apartment and need to install one of these pipes. I will only use them to inflate the hose, not for permanent attachment. I also wear them on my rides in case another driver has the same issue. (This happened more than once when I've had other extenders.)

Works great with Tubolito tubes, solves problems great

I switched to a set of 35mm carbon wheels and Tubolito tubes but didn't want an ultra light tube so it only came with a short stem . Other adapters required removable valve stems to work. it works, which is not possible on Tubolitos. This was my last chance and I was a little nervous about the mediocre reviews. They arrived, screwed in easily and worked as promised when using light pressure unscrewing and reinstalling the Presta valve stem. Once they loosened on me (no bleeding) I tightened…

Broke when adjusting, questionable design, bad materials. Not recommended.

Will not fit Reynolds Assault holes (fairly typical valve hole size). Also, the brass valve tip should make contact with the end of the valve core that you left in the original valve. It doesn't snap easily, making it difficult to easily open and close the valve. I suppose if you insist on using tubes with non-removable cores this is a good design, but if you just go for tubes with removable cores you can get an extension that works much better and easier. Also, one of them broke with the force

Extenders don't do what they're supposed to do.

Those valve extenders are terrible. They have three main problems: 1) The threads that screw onto the valve stem are made of very soft plastic and can be easily removed even if only hand tightened. Teflon tape didn't help. Not only did they not stay straight, but they kept leaking when trying to inflate the tire. 2) The rod insert for locking/unlocking the valve screw didn't fit the knurled handle on my valves (Challenge Latex, 700c x 19/28mm) so I just ripped them out with a dremel and ripped…

Works great with my Zipp 808 Firecrests

I bought a pair of Zipp 808s and was very unhappy with the Zipp extensions that came with them. I did a little searching and found that this extension has some mixed reviews. They work uniquely in that they thread onto your existing Presta valve (no removable core required). The little piece of silver then actually unscrews the valve to open it for pumping. The point is (and maybe why the reviews are mixed) that I've had mixed results depending on the pump I used. My more expensive pump worked…

Pros

  • Big and bulky

Perfect for emergencies when you can't get the long stem tube

This product doesn't deserve so much negative feedback. I always have this in my pocket because on a group ride there is always someone with low-profile wheels and a stock tube with a valve stem that is too short. I'm using it and we're on our way. If you have a deep section wheelset it is always better to buy long stem tubes. If you can't find it, the next best option would be a hose with a detachable core and valve extension, where you remove the valve core and reattach it to the end of the…

Not suitable for cycling

This extension is too large to fit through the hole in the rim of my HED Jet 6 Plus wheels. If you encounter this problem, DO NOT enlarge the hole in the rim as others have suggested. The hole in the rim is the diameter that the valve stem will support, and enlarging it could cause the valve stem to detach from the tube while riding, which could result in a dangerous blowout. Here are some options for 60mm discs: 1) Buy 80mm tubes. 2) Buy 48-60mm hoses with removable valve cores and use valve…
