Safety knows OEM there.

OEM upper and lower ball joints are what almost everyone says drives 3rd gen 4Runners. 230,000 miles with the original 2002 Limited kit. And when I took them off, there was practically no play in them.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • I vaguely remember that

TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS

These are Toyota Genuine Parts FROM JAPAN! The kit they replaced has done 265,000 miles on my 4runner, don't be fooled, genuine parts are better. I look forward to not having to worry about my upper ball joints for another 250,000 miles. Plus, since these are original parts, installation was a breeze!

Pros
  • Nice packaging

They certainly fit great as you would expect from genuine parts.

I tried some aftermarket (Valuecraft) upper ball joints and they didn't dent. Expect with OEM parts. Should have bought them from the start but was keen to start working on the truck. It still had to wait in the end, but I was happy to have the peace of mind of having genuine Toyota parts up front.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • No instructions

Okay, but aftermarket is easier to install

First off, I'll admit I screwed up. For some reason I figured I'd buy a pair and not one. Bought with lower ball joints. And then I'm also guilty of not realizing I only had 1 upper ball joint until I started spinning my truck. The ball joint is fairly easy to install, but I also had to buy a non-AutoZone original to complete the project as I only bought one to start with. There is a wire ring that you need to install to keep the cuff and grease inside. IMO, the aftermarket ball joint was…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Good mostly, but...
