Hard and good reception.

Install this on the Contender 21.5, my main harbor patrol boat. I had an 8ft fiberglass pole but I broke two of them. Once for sloppy towing and another time for shock loads from driving at slashing speeds. This short stainless steel whip gives me good reception and is said to be much more durable and also much cheaper.

Pros
  • Base Load Roll
Cons
  • Reliability

good call Best in Automotive and Automotive Electronics

I adapted my existing mast mount and used an old cable (too lazy to fish it through the mast and reinstall the new connector). Works perfectly! Good replacement device with cable at a good price. I was suspicious of the whip set screw stoppers and hoping I wouldn't regret not having used screw lock on them, but the whip has been rocking for 3 months and it's still there. Plastic body, but I think it's a matter of price. There is no reason for anything other than a five star rating.

Pros
  • Gain: 6dB
Cons
  • No power

Add some weather protection

I took a close look at this unit before installing it on our 19ft bow rider and found a design issue that I hope will solve can solve. The connector on the bottom of the antenna coil does not mate perfectly with the plastic of the coil housing. There is a gap on the thread between them and I can see the metal continuing into the base. Looks like a place where salt water can get in. I installed a strip of RTV silicone gasket at this point and the brace pushes against it once the mounting nut is…

Pros
  • Stainless steel L-Bracket for side or mast mount
Cons
  • Some bugs

Better than folded

Mounted on a 10ft mast (on a "Mr Longarm" wiper) Base station docked at Intracoastal. Approximately 15 feet above sea level and can be received from boats over five miles away. Conversations from both sides of the Coast Guard can sometimes be heard in the Jacksonville area. The Coast Guard pon pon radio transmissions are clear on my Cobra MR F75 D and the SWR is 1.2. The boat transfer is about five miles from the sea. Mounted on a pontoon boat the SWR is around 2. Sea Channel 16 is clearly…

Pros
  • Covers all marine bands
Cons
  • Everything is fine
