Great for building multiple small Wi-Fi cells around the house

Excellent way to layer 5GHz network access, especially at multiple small nodes around the house. Consider this a key component if you're already connected to your home and interested in a Wi-Fi network design that involves small overlapping cells rather than a single powerful transmitter at the router's hotspot (which is often far from ideal). Initial setup is easy, but if you have multiple devices, it can be a little tricky to set up afterwards, as you'll need to disconnect the device you're…

Easy to set up and it's nice and small $$

I'm a zero on wireless networks (don't allow this in my house except on my phone). But I wanted to reduce some of my OTA data permissions. It was easy to set up, well written instructions and even I could figure it out. My phone was new enough to use '802.11ac' so there weren't any installation issues, installation was easy (5 minutes?) and now I can use my phone wirelessly without having to share it with others, and have to don't worry about whether the network is secure or not. I like it. And

Everything is OK. Very simple router.

This review is for the Trendnet Wireless AC Easy upgrader. This router leaves a lot to be desired. I only use it as a Wi-Fi client on top of my existing portable router which only supports 2.4GHz when connected to public hotspots. Two major weaknesses: - Doesn't support closed portals. If Wi-Fi requires you to "sign in" first by redirecting to a web page, this router won't work with it. The default IP address of this router is 192.168.10.100. Once connected to an access point, it is no longer…

Headache in client mode

I used this device to wirelessly connect one LAN segment of my home network to another. It works fine, but the client mode setting and undocumented IP addressing used after setting client mode was disappointing. If I didn't have networking experience, I'd spend countless hours trying to figure it out and giving it back. Other modes seemed easy to set up, but I haven't tested them.

It's a nifty little device that easily adds a 5G hotspot to any room.

This nifty little device easily adds a 5G hotspot to any room in your home. Very easy to set up. Our router is upstairs in the office, so use a powerline adapter to extend the network downstairs and then plug directly into it. Works flawlessly.

So far so good for computers and accessories

UPDATE April 21, 2017 I'm so impressed I've bought a second one. I now have 5GHz throughout the house. All use the same SSID. Mobility without problems. Congested 2.4GHz spectrum (due to neighboring neighbors) is disabled on my router. Our network is now not visible far beyond our property due to the higher frequency, which is a plus. I am increasing the stars for this product to five. ORIGINAL review Im impressed so far. It immediately heard nearby channels in use and tuned far into the…

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Some bugs

I think it's ok as a device to upgrade the router to AC. It doesn't have a very strong signal and the network port is only 100Mbps anyway. My problem is that the client mode didn't work for me. Scanning didn't find any networks. Support was at a dead end so I returned it. Mine may have been broken, but I know the WiFi is working because I was able to connect in hotspot mode. Either way, this thing looks like shit. Disappointing product from Trendnet. *Edit* I think I figured it out. My network…
