It is better to have a bear canister for each member.

Black bears frisked it in Michigan's Porcupine Mountains and left tracks on the orange tape I applied. Never opened or left alone. I cooked my own meal for 3, 4 days for our trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. It is used to the maximum, every centimeter of space is used. and it weighs up to 17 pounds. If you use commercial food, you have enough space for a maximum of 2 people for 2 days. It's better to have a bear canister for each member of your party. Uncomfortable and hard but I expectedโ€ฆ

Locking mechanisms do not work below 50 degrees

Just got back from hiking Mount Whitney in California. I've had trouble locking and unlocking any of the locking mechanisms since I first used it in the country. When the temperature dropped below 50 degrees, none of the locks worked, rendering the canister unusable. I just got back from a trip yesterday and the return deadline has passed! I liked the size but it was useless at high altitudes and I didn't find the problem until I got to altitude with cooler temperatures. I am very dissatisfied.

Reliable product, suitable for camping and hiking

Works well and seems reliable. I was a bit paranoid about losing my coin to open it, so bring a few things to open it. It's decent when it comes to being bulky and fitting in a backpack with other gear. It's a bit on the heavier side, but not bad. I think if I was in a group of more than 2 people I would like to have a second one or more. I've had some issues with my rusty barrel that I put all my flavored stuff in, but I think I could tweak a little more. For example: if you know you're goingโ€ฆ

Strong canister, difficult to open

This canister is suitable for two people for 2-3 days if you mainly use freeze-dried products. Very strong but weighs a little at almost 2.5 lbs. If you're relying on a coin to open this, you'll need something like a $1 coin. It takes quite a bit of force to turn the screws and I actually bent a quarter trying to undo them. Yes I know it must be pretty hard for a bear to get in but a couple of times I wasn't sure if I could open it. It's not that I want to take extra hardware with me, but Iโ€ฆ

Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Good canister for the price

Was camping in Yosemite a few weeks ago and needed an approved bear canister. Bear cans have been hard to come by due to COVID, presumably due to limited production. This was the cheapest canister we could find, delivered on time before our trip and licensed for rural Yosemite. It's small, smaller than the ones you would rent in Yosemite. However, my friend and I managed to pack all of our groceries, toiletries and other flavored items into one canister for our 3 nights in the country (as wellโ€ฆ
