Do not buy! for landline

I had this set (2 extensions + base station) for four years and hated it almost from the start. Batteries are quickly empty and expensive to replace. They're also hard to find - had to buy replacements online because local stores, including specialized ones, didn't have them.

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Some little things

Setup software doesn't work on Windows 7 and higher

This is a great phone - highly customisable, great sound quality, long range. I needed a replacement for an identical unit after the screen failed after 15 years. The phone works with my phone base but I can't get the software to recognize the phone. The USB drivers were written back in 2004 and never updated. I'm really disappointed that the software doesn't work due to the fantastic features of this phone.

Pros
  • High support and durability scores from testers
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Simply the best home telephone system I've ever had

I have given a detailed evaluation of the basic system, but the device deserves a separate comment. I've bought tubes for every room in the house and since I don't like using a clip to carry around I use them. They are easy to set up via the PC interface, but can also be set up without it. Each handset is given its original name, making it very easy to transfer calls or paging to the handset. (You no longer have to remember which room the "fifth” handset is in.) I was impressed with both the…

Very good, but not perfect

I left a full review of the system at Uniden CLX485, but I wanted to review the device as a standalone product. If it were possible, it would be 4.5. This is a very sleek phone with a lot of great features. In addition, you can update most of the information about the base model and transfer it to the phone, which is very convenient. The battery life is fantastic too (although I only had it for 1 month). It's easy to receive messages from any phone, and any phone is easy to call since you can…

Good multi handset system, fair only at a distance

I used to have a couple of 900mhz phones but when we moved to a new house I needed a multi handset system that uses the same base station/phone jack . I bought Uniden mainly because after all the discounts I could get 3 phones and a base for $130. The next option with a decent feature set would cost over $200. The 5.8GHz range on this system can't match the 900MHz setup I've had, and it's a bit more demanding on base station placement. Our base station is upstairs in the bedroom and in the…

Cutting edge technology ahead of its time

I have bought 6 of these for my home in the last 2.5 years. They all work great and I never cease to be amazed at how advanced they are. The only issues I've encountered are related to the battery, but I believe battery issues are common to all phones. My previous $300 top-end Panasonic phone system also had battery problems. A Uniden battery will die after 1 year of use, and the second battery (the other handset) will only charge to half its normal capacity. I have a large two story house and…
