The hard drive dock is fast but cheap.

I bought this docking station to retrieve data from a desktop SATA drive on an old computer. The docking station was very easy to install and the user has the option of using a USB 2.0 connection or a much faster SATA connection to the host computer. A driver disk is included, but Windows 7 on my new computer didn't even need to boot up the hard drive to install it, which took seconds. The docking station is designed to connect laptop and desktop drives, SATA drives only. And here's the…

Gets the job done!: Computer Accessories & Peripherals

If you are a memory lover or media editor (or game developer in my case), this thing will be your lifesaver. It might sound paranoid, but every time you run electricity through any part of a computer (however small), you're still "gaining" miles for something. Due to the many iterations of my game's source files, videos I edit, or other projects, I need a safe place for local backup in addition to my cloud backup. Because fetching from the cloud can be slow. decant and then store in an…

Some good, some bad, but it does the job.

I bought one of these to meet the need for easy swapping of drives for offline or backup data. He does it wonderfully. It was easy to install, but if you don't have a computer on your desk you can buy a longer eSATA cable as the one that comes with it isn't very long. I had no issues with the power button as mentioned by several reviewers. One annoying thing about this device is that sometimes the drive doesn't align properly in the slot and the SATA and SATA power connectors don't connect…

That works first. on computer accessories and peripherals

I have several hard drives, both 2.5" and 3.5", which I connected to the computer with a SATA-USB and a separate power supply have. . This arrangement worked but wasn't ideal as the cables ran everywhere and the USB connection wasn't fast enough. I've looked at several different hard drive docks and very few of them have a Firewire 800 connection. Of these, this one looked good in the photos. Well, at least a photo of the back of the device. I connected it to my Mac through another Firewire…
