I wasn't sure my girls would ever use this thing. They are about five weeks old. I put it in her suitcase after about 3 weeks. I am pleased to report that last night I opened the roof of her mini chicken coop and found all six sleeping together in this roost. This is ideal to start hatching chickens. I will have to use something else in the chicken coop as my girls are growing up and need a wider bar. This works great for young birds.

My chickens love it! They've been using it since they were a week old. Now at 3 weeks it fits four. I can't imagine an adult chicken wanting to use it - it seems too small. But overall pretty cute! My family hatched chickens (and ducks) as part of the COVID summer project. Now that the chicks are 6 weeks old we wanted to house them in incubators while we prepare to move them to an outdoor stall. (They run during the day and stay in incubators at night). They sat happily on the perch pole for an hour - they needed no introduction. This is the perfect thickness and they will be amazing on the run! The design is solid and intuitive. This product is highly recommended for livestock.

It was easy to put together and seems strong enough for the chicks. However, I would not feel comfortable putting any of our chickens on the top perch as they are large birds. Our 4 week old chicks are too big for the lower quarters. These basically ensure stability. They might be suitable for chicks under 2 weeks old if they were a smaller breed than ours. I am giving this roost 5 stars on behalf of my chicks who love this roost. At first I wasn't sure if they would use it, but they figured it out quickly and have been using it consistently ever since. It is strong, very easy to assemble and ideal for chicks a few weeks old. I assume about 4 young turkeys would fit comfortably on one of these perches.
