Shaft too short and narrow

This tool would have been perfect except the shank was too narrow and the upper wider shank where the goose foot locks were too short for my large tie rod end. My husband and I were able to attach the goose foot but when I tried to tighten the shaft he could not reach the goose foot which was on the threads of the pull rod. What gives? I think size 42 fits the tie rod threads, but the threaded head is large, no tools seem to fit. I bought two different tools, the first tool I bought had three…
