The 40 inch bed is a bit big for my 85 lb Weimaraner and too small for my 160 lb Great Dane lol. I get the 52 inch bed on Monday and I'm sure my Dane will be happy with it. We also have a German Shorthaired Pointer and a Golden Retriever that fit perfectly in a 40 inch bed. Update: Our big dog won. the bed rotted in June. He still likes it, but the second one offers just as much weight support as the other one, so it's flat now. I love this bed and it's only been here a few hours. My girl is very spoiled and loves the sofas and beds we sleep/sit on. I liked this bed at first but it's not even a year old and the filling is flat. We got the largest size for our 60 lb lab because he likes to fully stretch.
