Description of Warner Music Vinyl Record PINK FLOYD WISH YOU WERE HERE
Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album by Pink Floyd, released in September 1975. Material for the record was collected during a concert tour of Europe and recorded after multiple sessions at Abbey Road Studios in London (Studio 3). "Wish You Were Here" touches on the themes of alienation, the problems of the music industry and the personality of former band member Syd Barrett, who left collective due to an unstable mental state caused by drug use. The first session recordings were hard and stressful, the concept of the album was proposed by Roger Waters, who decided to split the main track "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" into two parts and add three more new songs to it. The title track was a tribute to Barrett, who, ironically, made an impromptu visit to the studio during recording. The visit turned out to be so unexpected, and the appearance of the musician changed so much that the band members did not immediately recognize him as their old comrade. Pink Floyd is a cult British rock band, famous for its lengthy compositions and songs combined into thematic suites, sound experiments, philosophical texts, album cover design and grand concert shows. It is one of the most influential and commercially successful groups in the history of world rock music - it has more than 250 million albums sold in the world, including 75 million in the United States.
The band was founded in 1965 by fellow architecture students at the London Polytechnic Institute Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), Nick Mason (drums) and their friend from Cambridge Syd Barrett (vocals, guitar). The original name "The Pink Floyd Sound" was coined by the band''s leader and lyricist of the early period, Barrett, in 1967 it was shortened to "Pink Floyd". At the beginning of the same year, the band released their first singles, and in August their debut studio album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, became a classic of psychedelic rock.
At the end of 1967, guitarist David Gilmour joined the four musicians. He replaced Barrett, who was suffering from drug addiction at the time, who often disrupted recordings and concerts. After the departure of Barrett, Roger Waters and Richard Wright became the dominant figures in the group, but over time, Wright lost ground to Gilmour. Between 1968 and 1972, the group released six albums (two of which contain film scores). In 1973, the band''s most successful album, The Dark Side of the Moon, was released, immediately making Pink Floyd a worldwide phenomenon. It was followed by the albums "Wish You Were Here" (1975) and "Animals" (1977), which further increased the international fame of the band.
With each new album, Roger Waters strengthened his leadership in Pink Floyd, gradually turning into.
