Description of 🌐 Waveshare Industrial RS232/RS485 to Ethernet Converter: Dual Serial Ports with TCP and UDP Data Transmission

M4 series 32-bit ARM processor with up to 120MHz frequency, fast speed, stable and reliable;10/100M Auto-MDI/MDIX ethernet interface, regardless of cross-over or straight-through cable. Both RS232 and RS485 interface, allows to work independently at the same time, without interfering each other; Configurable baudrate (600bps~230.4Kbps), supports five parity check options: None, Odd, Even, Mark, Space. Supports Modbus, suit for industrial application; Supports Websocket, allows bi-directional transparent data transmission with RS232/RS485 port via webpage directly. Supports customized heartbeat packets, make sure the connection is truthful, as well as for actively retrieving sensor data;Supports customized webpage, allows user to customize the module configuration page.

RS232 worked great

It's a beast of a box. But Hardy and I have been using it to isolate raspberry pi from high voltage regulators for the past 3 months with no problems. i buy more

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Concerns me

Problems with RS485 in power converters

Although several other USB<->RS485 adapters work with the same computer and the same devices, I could not get the Waveshare adapter to work with any RS485 device. RS232 worked as expected.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • too stupid

+15kV error IEC16000-4-2 ESD test

I bought this specifically to monitor the UART output of my DUT during the ESD test. It mostly worked (there were a few USB failures but could be unplugged/replugged to fix) up to 15kV. I did a 15kv test and started getting garbage from the waveshare terminal. My DUT's UART output still works with another UART receiver. Cycling the current did not fix this problem (at 15kV at lower voltages I've seen trips recovering after cycling the current). The description says "Lightning and Anti-Static"…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Not all good

RS232 worked fine

Its the beast out of the box. But Hardy and I have been using it to isolate raspberry pi from high voltage regulators for the past 3 months with no problems. i buy more

Pros
  • M4 series 32-bit ARM processor up to 120MHz, high speed, stable and reliable; Ethernet interface 10/100M Auto-MDI/MDIX, whether crossover or straight cable

Failing +15 kV IEC16000-4-2 ESD test

I bought this specifically to monitor the UART output of my DUT during ESD testing. It mostly worked (there were a few USB failures but could be unplugged/replugged to fix) up to 15kV. I did a 15kV test and started getting garbage from the Waveshare terminal. My DUT's UART output still works with another UART receiver. Pros
  • Both the RS232 and RS485 interfaces allow you to work independently at the same time without interfering with each other; Configurable baud rate (600 bps ~ 230.4 kbps), support for five parity options: none, odd, even, mark, space
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

I have a problem using it on my computer. I opened the box and found that the board is well built and has plenty of spacing between the USB side and the RS-485 side so isolation shouldn't be an issue. Both the RS-485 port and the RS-232 port have multiple surge protection devices and the TTL port can be switched between 5V and 3.3V, so the device must be reliable and versatile. In terms of functionality, nothing is missing. The price really surprised me. I have used much more expensive devices…

Pros
  • Supports customizable heartbeat packets, ensures connection validity and for active collection of sensor data; Supports customizable web pages, allows user to customize module configuration page
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous
