Typical WD quality - great product

Who can't use more space on their PC? For the past year, I've been attaching external USB drives to my computer to store digital pictures and music files. It's embarrassing because I'm a techie in my world. With 3 USB drives on my desk, I look like I borrowed my grandfather's computer. I used to do lateral support and we've always used WD hard drives for upgrades and replacements. Quality material and it seems that nothing has changed over the years. This 1T drive solves my embarrassingโ€ฆ

Be careful with old goods

I bought this WDC hard drive in 7/2016. The product received has a manufacturing date of 6/2014. It should have a 3 year guarantee. When registering with the WDC, it says that there is about 1 year of warranty left. When I contacted WDC they said the warranty was based on the date of manufacture not the date of purchase. I bought this item specifically because of its 3 year warranty. It's impossible to determine the date of manufacture without opening the box and looking at the disc. This unitโ€ฆ

Consumer-oriented NAS hard drive

Western Digital deserves credit for offering application-optimized hard drives, although I think they could do a much better job of explaining the types of optimizations that have been made to make certain discs better better suited to certain situations than others. The optimization is tangible, although performance differences between drive families and sometimes even within the same family can be small, so I'd like more information. This WD Network drive is optimized for NAS use. Althoughโ€ฆ

Solid hard drive. does the job. Let's see how it holds up.

Instead of a NAS, I use it on my homemade desktop PC. That works great. Lots of space, enough speed and it was easy to install. I really had to use Partition Magic to format the drive as NTFS for my system, but now it's happily floating around serving as a media repository. The packaging was typical WD, but served its purpose of protecting the hard drive during transport. It looks like my computer didn't get too hot either. Durability wise, I've only had it recently so can't rate it yet, but Iโ€ฆ

Good drive for NAS install

A quick note: this is a NAS drive. Hopefully, by the time most buyers look at this product, they will already know that this is no ordinary desktop drive. It's not about speed, it's about reliability and the ability to work 24/7 almost every day. This product did just that. It's not the fastest little drive, but it seems pretty quiet for my small setup. I didn't fail either. I have absolutely no brand loyalty and have had both Seagate and WD hard drive failures. I'm trying to find informationโ€ฆ
