Good fan switch best for lights and ceiling fans

These fan switches work as advertised and do a good job of converting a 3 speed fan to a 4 speed fan. I use them with a pair of Westinghouse 7802400 Contractor's Choice 52-inch five-blade ceiling fans and they work well. My only complaint is that they feel cheap and clunky as you move the controls up and down.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

The same controls sell for a lot more than other brands

These speed controls are identical to the ones that came with my Minka Aire fans that are installed in some rooms of my house. They're exactly the same in every way, but cost half the price. I have paired them with popular Westinghouse industrial fans and am very happy with the purchase.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • Safety

Eh, not the best

Others have mentioned points that bother me: The switch switches from high to low, with 1 being the fastest. The slide switch has no stops and feels cheap. I would be surprised if this continued for several years. The logo is there and can't be hidden, it reminds you which company made that crappy switch. The wires are quite thin so be careful if you need to strip them further.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Works great, no compatibility issues or hum.

Works great and easy to install. For best results, set the fan to maximum speed before controlling it with this variable speed switch. Some fans will not like the speed controller unless they are set to high speed and will hum when throttled. If you're lucky enough to have a fan that doesn't care, you could technically have 12 speeds to fine-tune your fan (3 speeds on the fan and 4 speeds on the wall switch).

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Negative present

Identical to the ones I already have at home

Identical to the controls I already have in my house for existing ceiling fans. In addition to the existing ceiling fans, I had two ceiling fans preinstalled in my house, but they didn't install the fan control switches; You installed a standard light switch for the fan. The only reason I gave them stars is because of the Westinghouse logo on the front of the switch. I used some chrome polish to remove the logo.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • I won't say anything

The switch is worth the money.

My fans came with surface mount switches. Big ugly things. They heat up when set to lower settings. It worries me, that's why I'm buying these sliders. They are from the same company as the fans. I installed them and left them hanging out of the box. Run the fans at low speed for three hours and the new slider will maintain the same temperature across the board. Doesn't feel warm. Fans are now significantly quieter with the slider. Fans would be happy about the included switch. So far, so good.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

reverse speeds: Accessory

On the plus side, the controller works. On the negative side, it's the other way around with this controller, instead of "1" being low and "4" being high (where "0" or "-" is off). So the speeds are in order: Off, High, Medium-High, Medium, Low. No deal breaker. but strange. And be careful, the logo is actually on the controller and not on the front panel as shown in the picture. So if you're thinking like me, you can just swap out the faceplate and save yourself the sight of the logo every…

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • Hard to tell

OK Fan Control Option

We bought these to add wall control to our ceiling fans. I admit we chose this as a less expensive version of what's out there. While this is pretty much an easy replacement for an old switch, I didn't find them easy (I consider myself a seasoned DIYer). You must turn on the fan in a specific way before turning on the power for the control stages to work properly. No matter how many times I tried, it didn't work. So for my fan the first point was high speed - it was the opposite of how it…
