Decoy tactic! the best in hand and power tools

I ordered this stone - according to an ad - but received a completely different stone. I have an odd used, chipped, painted, cut piece of junk that is supposed to be a 15000 grit stone but seems to be more durable than my 1000k stone. I bought REETEC as advertised. I bought a NEW stone. Instead I get this funky, worn piece of ceramic, rougher than 1k? Nothing I received is what I ordered.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • I don't remember

Very bad binder produces cut too fast (not even 15,000 grit)

It's probably no more than 3000 grit max. Its binder is very bad, so it loses a lot of mass to the slurry, which in combination with the much coarser grit cuts too quickly. It also leads to incredibly fast wear, resulting in a poor lifespan. You *can* get a mirror finish if you're very careful. This stone also has a TERRIBLE finish. I could probably cut it just as smoothly on a 32t/d bandsaw.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Expensive

Sweet stone for that smooth iron

I love this stone. I love sharpening irons the old fashioned way. Sit down and take the time to hand sharpen them. I'm no expert yet, but I've learned so much about hand sharpening in such a short amount of time. This is the last stone I use to polish the edge of my gouges and chisels. By taking the time to make the edge of the blade as smooth as possible on both the front and back, I've had great results with my woodwork. Not everyone will agree, but we all have to find our own way.

Pros
  • Alright!
