Great Product!: Power & Hand Tools

I love Shapton Stones. They cut well, don't collect shavings, use water as a lubricant, and are hard enough that you don't have to re-smooth them every time you first straighten them. The supplied plastic box is perfect for storage, unlike the cardboard box, which tends to mold due to water residue in the stones. The color coding makes it very easy to see which stone you have, even after the markings have worn off. It's awesome. I don't think there is a BEST line of sharpening/buffing stones on

Pros
  • Country of Origin: Japan
Cons
  • Disappear

I love it. good for hand tools

I really like this stone as it helps to complete my low grit collection. I like the fast cutting action; It picks up the burr right away and the feedback is satisfying for my relatively inexperienced hands. My only real complaint is that it wears out quicker than I'd like. I'd say it's about the same or a little slower than my King Deluxe 1000. Not a big deal but since I use it for both kitchen knives and chisels/slicers it means I only have to remove a fair amount of material relatively…

Pros
  • Case size: 210~70~15mm
Cons
  • Expensive

Buy the Kuromaku Series, not the Shapton Pro, to save money!

After much research and use of both the Shapton Pro series and the Shapton Kuromaku series they are exactly the same in terms of performance. These are Shapton stones sold in Japan. The official reason Shapton stated they made another series for the States is because they were made for the US climate, not the high humidity in Japan, the people of the States were cracking rocks . hence the Shapton Pro series. People say they sell cheaper in Japan because Shapton doesn't have as many fans as here

Pros
  • Grit: #320
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
