🍵 Yoshikawa YJ1943 Whistling Kettle - Stainless Steel 2.5L Made in Japan Review

ATTENTION! This kettle doesn't always whistle when water boils. If you buy one, be aware that you won't always be notified when the water is boiling, so be careful!. I'm swapping mine out for a working one!

I am evaluating the kettle for the second time. In the first review I gave 4 stars because the lid was loose. I've used it a few times since then and found that the lid now fits perfectly without any action on my part. I think it had to be heated a couple of times to get it snug. Great kettle that I can only recommend.

After 1 month of light use this is going in the trash. Here's why: 1. Very thin handle and body. Feels like a tin toy.2. It takes FOREVER to boil water in 3 minutes. When used with a gas stove, the handle will become dangerously hot.4. The whistle never worked. I finally took it apart and noticed that there was a piece of brass or copper that was completely corroded. I bought it because it was NOT made in China. What I ended up with was slightly WORSE. Wonderful. :-(

I hate giving bad reviews but this kettle is not a very good buy. It should be a whistling kettle. Unfortunately, the one I checked didn't whistle at all. Due to the price and Made in Japan claims, I had high expectations. However, this expensive new kettle can't even perform as well, let alone perform better than my old $10 kettle. I like my kettle. I looked around for a red teapot that wasn't made in China, but gave up and looked for a stainless steel teapot instead. It is almost impossible to find a teapot that is not made in China. I couldn't find any made in the USA. For €54 (August 2017) I expected a lot more. I am returning it because what I received has been used or at least tried and because it had several manufacturing defects. I might buy it again if Revain or the seller assure me they can easily send a sample.
