Description of ๐ŸŽจ Winsor & Newton Watercolor Paper Block, 140lb Cold Pressed, 9x12, White - Professional Grade

Exceptionally resilient and durable, our watercolor paper will not warp or cockle even when saturated with large volumes of water. Made on a traditional cylinder mold. This ensures the fibers are interwoven, which gives the paper far greater strength and dimensional stability. Fibers are internally and externally sized, allowing it to withstand the roughest of techniques. Colors remain brilliant and intense. Cold pressed paper has a less textured finish and produces the brightest paintings. Its increased surface area holds more color and rejects more light. Our professional paper is constructed with 100Percent cotton with pure spring water. 20 sheets per block

This block is not.

I was looking for something less expensive than bows. The paper itself is excellent, no worse than sheets. The problem is that the glue is too strong and ruins the back of the paper when I cut the pages out of the pad. The photo is on the back of the paper. I wouldn't recommend getting this in a block. I went back to using bows.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • No instructions

You get what you pay for

Arches Rough watercolor paper is my new favorite, but it's expensive. Given Windsor & Newton's reputation I decided to try this as it is cheaper. All I can say is you get what you pay for. It warps even before it's a block, and colors don't mix or manipulate as easily as with rough Arches paper. Don't waste money on it.

Pros
  • Cold pressed paper has a less textured surface and produces the lightest prints. Its increased surface area holds more color and rejects more light
Cons
  • Not sure

O baby! This is beautiful, sexy paper!

Sometimes I just open the pad to run my fingers over the beautiful texture of the cold-pressed paper. This paper is great! Highly recommended! It's made for watercolor only. I wish I had invested in this paper sooner because now I see I wasn't as bad a budding watercolor painter as I thought I was. I just used cheaper paper! If you're new to watercolor painting and not sure if it's worth spending that much on paper, buy at least a small pad. You'll see a world of difference in what you can doโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Manufactured on a traditional cylindrical mould. This creates an interlacing of the fibers, which gives the paper a significantly higher strength and dimensional stability.
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Meh for 100% cotton - I'll stick with Arches

I am returning to watercolor painting as it was my favorite medium at school. I wanted this newspaper to be liked, but it has "problems". I've tried many cheaper papers that are good for some techniques or to create colored die-cut papers. Although this paper is 100% cotton, it performs just as well as cheaper paper. The density and texture are pleasant. But when you add water and color, there's no control. I don't usually work from the block but cut the paper into smaller sizes and glue themโ€ฆ

Pros
  • The fibers are sized inside and out so they can withstand the toughest methods. Colors remain bright and intense
Cons
  • Dangerous
