Easy Tailgate Latch Repair

Durability to be determined. The installation was successful with the help of a YouTube video from Dan the Man Garage. I could tell the broken latch wasn't factory so we'll see how long that lasts.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • Negative Impression

Perfect replacement

I just installed it myself on my 2007 Sequoia Limited. I watched a short video on Youtube and then found the part on Amazon and ordered it. Installation took about 30 minutes and my broken tailgate would not close without straps. At almost $200,000 for this car, I'm glad I didn't spend $1000 on a mechanic's replacement.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Older model

Pain In My Ass: Motors

I had to use a cable lug because the cable was too long. After installation, the sunroof sensor started turning on constantly, even when it was closed. This will set off my alarm/beep and drain my battery. I took it to the dealer and had to spend $375 to replace the $200 clasp. Probably a broken wire. waste of time. Wouldn't do it again.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Secret

Wrong cable length

Wrong cable length. It doesn't fit a Toyota Sequoia without spending a few hours modifying what should fit. Very dissatisfied with my purchase, please for God's sake don't buy this! To update! I replaced the deadbolt anyway and it broke already after opening the door maybe 20-30 times. DO NOT BUY!

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Updates

Update: Cable lasted less than 2 weeks. My 2007 Sequoia trunk won't open anymore because the cable is too long. Two of the holes were unthreaded so the screws from the stock part couldn't get in. Now we need to figure out how to get this part to work, having already removed the tailgate. separately.

Even the tailgate doesn't stay closed

I had high hopes for this latch. I installed it and it sticks but doesn't keep the door closed. I'm sending it back. I went to a Toyota dealership and paid through the nose but it works fine out of the gate. The tolerances were wrong enough for it not to hook and hold. This wasn't my setup as the OEM went the same way and went straight to zero adjustment. Save yourself the headache and simply buy quality replacement parts. It's a waste of time removing the panel twice to get it right once.

Pros
  • Compatible with Toyota Sequoia 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007.
Cons
  • Functionality

You need to modify it with 2 cable ties

So the part itself is fine. There is no cord length and you will mess up your alarm or fail to open it with the handle. It all depends on the length of the cable. You can use your old cable if it's in good condition. It wasn't mine. Here's how to fix it: after installing your device, leave the cable loose and slack. Take 2 zip ties and tie them as tight as you can under the ball at the end of the rope. Cut off the excess end of the plastic zipper. Insert the entire zipper ball you created into…

Pros
  • . The built-in quality motor and wear-resistant gear ensure long-term performance. Ideal direct replacement for locking actuators.
Cons
