Great Sharpener in Whetstones

I love how easy it is to use. The guides help, and being able to turn around to finish the edges is a good thing. It would probably be possible to use a light oil, like my old 30 year old stones, but so far I've used it dry.

Pros
  • Lasting Test Results
Cons
  • Damaged

Great sharpener: mechanical and hand tools

Seriously simplifies knife sharpening. It is very difficult to spoil the sharpening of a knife. Good instructions and great videos on youtube. When done right, it's easy and quick, and the knife is sharp. A sharp knife is much safer than a dull blade.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Available in white only

Works well - whetstones

Purchased obviously to sharpen knives, scissors etc. Great product for so much money. It's pretty easy to use except when the stone is locked in the mechanism and the slide switch acts up. Definitely not difficult. Otherwise, a great way to sharpen and refine items with blades.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • So far so good

OK - not quite what I expected

This is a decent sharpener - not quite what I expected hence 4 stars not higher. The mechanism that makes it easy to rotate the various abrasive surfaces to access the blade is a bit clumsy - it works but doesn't rotate at the base as shown in the video. The size of the blades is sufficient for most household knives. An adjustable angle guide makes sense. The base is solid and the feet prevent slipping. For the price I'm glad I have it and will be using it for sharpening.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Good but not great

Almost false evidence.

I have previously purchased a guide sharpener which did its job well but had trouble holding it steady (still a great sharpener to toss in a bag). This sharpener combines the human element of balancing this stone set. Great for desktop storage, easy to use, hard to screw up. The bang for your buck in this manual setup is very impressive. Quickly re-armed my shitty field edges. Don't wait to dull some of the more difficult blade steels to see how it performs.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Requires socket

Skill with hand tools required

Keeping knives sharp has been my passion since childhood. Back then I disassembled my curved sharpener and my father sharpened a tiny blade for me. When he taught me how to do it myself, I sharpened my friend's and the other kids' blades at school. This led to my passion for knife sharpening. Of course, we didn't have such diamond stones back then. But if you're buying one of these sharpeners, you need to know how to keep your blade at the right angle while sharpening. It takes practice, but…

Easy to use, constant angle and very fast, highly recommend

I have a field version of the sharpener which I really like, just wanted a desktop version for home use. You get a constant angle every time, resulting in a very sharp edge. I'm interested in the floating theme and it seems to work. You only need one course tile to sculpt an edge for the first time or to fix a really dull edge, make 10-15 strokes on each side, then repeat with each stone. I finish mine on a leather strap (Kanfs) with 6000 buffing compound (comes with the strap). Generates a…

Difficult to repair various guides

The sharpener works well. Did an excellent job sharpening various types of knives - kitchen knives, loin knives, buck knives, spyderco knives and more. My problem was that the lock for individual sliders became more and more difficult to engage after repeated use. I had to rock back and forth several times. Sometimes one is blocked and the other is not. It became very inconvenient to use. I spoke to the manufacturer and their service rep said the engineer said it was designed so the slides…
