I had one of these in the old version. It's been great here in Colorado, where I'm often at 8,000+ feet. I lost it and ordered this as a replacement. It would not ignite at all with the same fuel as the original and the other Xikar lighter I use. I sent it back and got my money back so no loss except time.

From the start the proximity of the button to the flame is such that it becomes very uncomfortable after a few seconds, and if you're not careful whatever you've done, you won't be able to keep it up for very long. Lighting a large cigar is problematic. Then, after a couple of months, a crack appeared in the fuel tank, which flows out after a few minutes. It wasn't dropped or abused, it just started to crack. Xikar guys for the version there LOSE the flip cover for ALL. I've had this thing for two days and the lid has already fallen off. However, pay attention to the five stars. The v1 stratosphere I had previously lasted 2 years without a lid, no problem. I only repurchased because I lost my v1. In version 2 they didn't mess up any of the parts I like best so I can take the five stars I gave version 1 with the caveat that the lid is useless but doesn't last long before breaking .

Just bought mine so consider that a durability rating. At first I liked it. It sits on my desktop and is used several times a month. I bought the recommended fuel and refilled it several times. This time, the lighter spurts out the same fuel, and then instead of a small blue flame, a large, tall orange flame erupts. Drained fuel, tried again, same result. When trying to remove the obstacle, the small spring in the burner broke. I definitely wouldn't want to rely on it to survive.

Love the lighter - HATE the case. I received a lighter a few months ago and the lid broke the first time I took it out of my pocket. I exchanged it at my local smoke shop, no problem. 1 week later I just flipped the lid over as usual and it broke. The lighter still works. I had to go to Colorado (7285ft from 0ft) and the lighter works fine BUT the rest of the body just fell apart and is currently being held together with duct tape.
