Incompatible diameters

I bought this product because another reviewer said it fits perfectly on the Ikea Expedit cubic bookcase/shelf. And some of them were. I'm glad I bought a bag with too many dowels because only about 30% of them were small enough to fit the bookcase holes. Many of these dowels were not round and their size varied widely.

Works at Ikea Expedit. with patience

I found an Ikea Expedit for free on a dumpster in my town. I collect records and have 4 other Expedit shelves so I attacked them. There was a sign saying "just need screws and anchors" and with enough on hand I figured no problem. At first I wanted to cut my own dowel pins since I couldn't find them at my local hardware store, but I decided to look online as I found replacement screws fairly easily. 6mm x 60mm (and metric sizes in general) has proven a bit harder to come by and I tend to think…
