Break off the cable. on Towing Food & Winch

I bought this product because my van has a standard cord that sometimes drags on the floor. This cable, when rolled up, will not. The only caveat I have was that it was supposed to come with a pin to insert into the kill switch controller, but that didn't happen. This is not a problem, but was advertised together with the pin.

Best outdoor accessory I've found

I really like this because it has a coiled wire and clip. The clamp is big enough to fit into the wide plate on my hitch where it attaches, and the coiled wire keeps it neat, up and out of the way. Many others only have a straight wire and expect you to wrap the wire around the hitch or hook it into something. A clip fixes this problem.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Damaged

Be sure to purchase the 6ft Detachable Cable

Ordering replacement detachable cables is a great idea. There's nothing worse than being in the middle of nowhere with lost or damaged cables. I have ordered both 4ft and 6ft and 6ft is the best. 1. Two extra legs are a plus to reduce tension. 2. The six foot footer comes with a pen. Spend a few dollars more and order a six foot.

Must have: External Accessories

After the *incident* of our original little breakaway cable being accidentally pulled, I started looking for alternatives. The original cable always got in the way, so I always double- and triple-checked to make sure it was secure. That solves it, and pretty well too. It shrinks to a very small size for easy storage. Regardless of the application, I can't imagine anyone needing anything less than the 6 inch version. Stretched out on a truck, somewhere around 6 feet, it feels pretty snug. A…

Exactly what I wanted good for tow chucks and winches

My previous breakaway cable was too long and accidentally got caught under the blocks when raising the trailer. It was a simple steel cable that ran from the clamp to the hitch. On our first ride, my first ride as a trailer owner, the cable caught under the idler pulleys I was using under the tongue jack and unknowingly pulled out a breakaway pin when lifting. When it was time to leave, imagine my panic as the trailer's wheels locked and I had no idea why. 45 minutes later we were on our way…

Pros
  • tow chucks and winches
Cons
  • not bad

This part was easy to work with. All I had to do was degrease the outlet on our trailer's old control box, spray it with fresh grease, and then plug in this new detachable wire. Just like 1, 2, 3. It took a bit of effort, but the whole idea is you don't want this thing to fall out or disengage and inadvertently activate your trailer's emergency braking system while you're driving down the road. LOL That red jacketed wire is much more eye catching than the original unit that came with our RV…
