Recommended for smaller habitats.

I have a small (3-5 gallon) glass habitat for 2 hermit crabs and this size is supposed to be the right size for it but it doesn't heat it very well. It's only supposed to raise the temperature by 5 degrees, but it doesn't seem to get that far. Next time I'll probably go up a size, but it's only been a few days since the exchange.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Something different

Works perfectly! for reptiles and amphibians

Great heater for my hermit crab tank. It's a very mild heat, which is good because I don't want them to get too hot. I put two of these on my 10 gallon tank because I didn't think either of them was up to the task. The two heaters seem to keep the temperature in the right range. It's pretty chilly in my house in the winter and I see crabs burrowing right next to the heater, so I think they like it.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Problems

5.5 gallon tank in 24 hours not much of a difference

I have two hermit crabs. Clean your tank every day and change the water every day. I have many things for them to climb and hide. This should keep the heat in very well. However, this thing sucks. Maybe 1 degree difference? And you can feel the warmth when you put your hand on the glass it's sitting on. Our crabs are still hiding and trying to keep warm. Pooh!

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • No

Ideal for 10 gallons. Tank

Was only a few weeks, did not like it very much. I have 10 gallons. Glass basin and 3 hermit crabs. Put on the tank as indicated on the packaging. I got some advice from my local small town pet store. He suggested putting it under the tank on one side. Spray the substrate from time to time and cover half of the screen cap with a piece of cardboard for the winter. Humidity rose to the ideal 70-74. Hermits are much happier.! This now works fine for my 10 gallons. Tank.

  • A lot of positive emotions

Good under the right conditions.

If your tank capacity is well below the required limit or is very large, this product may not be for you. My 5.5 gallons stays around 70F though, so it's a nice warm place for my hermits to sit or sleep if they want to warm up a bit. One of them dug a toasted bed next to him (it's taped to the back outside wall) and the other doesn't seem to care what his temperature is, so I think it's a win-win! next to it, but I would say it heats the spot up to around 74-75 F.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Discontinued

Good under the right conditions.

If your reservoir is well below the required limit or is very large, this probably isn't the ideal product for you. My 5.5 gallons stays around 70F though, so it's a nice warm place for my hermits to sit or sleep if they want to warm up a bit. One of them has a toasted bed buried next to him (it's taped to the back outside wall) and the other doesn't seem to care what his temp is, so I think it's a win-win! Didn't measure right next to it, but I'd say it warms the spot to around 74-75 F.

Conflicting instructions

I bought this heater to heat my small plastic hermit crab terrarium. The product is advertised as suitable for use in plastic terrariums on the Revain website and on Zoo Med's own website. This is also indicated in the instructions accompanying the product. However, upon opening the product I found that the heater itself states that it is for use in glass terrariums only. Also, the white backing specifically indicates that the heater is not safe to use on plastic. Do not purchase this heater…

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly torn

gottacoldcrabitatthere

I thought this little heater would do for my 10 gallon terrarium but it isn't. The heater barely changed the temperature and now I need a heater in the room where my crabs live to keep them warm enough. It might work if you have a 5 gallon tank, but it won't do for a 10 gallon tank. FYI, the packaging also says you only need 1.5 to 2 inches of substrate to use as an under tank heater. However, a properly set up crab should be twice the size of your largest crab so it can burrow when it's time…

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • Can't remember
