Simple compact 12V trigger/reverse drive

When my old CCTV box camera's IR switch failed, the only replacement available was too heavy for the original drive. I was able to use the assembled module to connect the drive and new IR switch with resistors to limit current draw. As the attached picture shows, the module fits perfectly in the limited space.

Pros
  • Computer components
Cons
  • Legacy model

Damaged/faulty motor driver

All three motor drivers I bought are defective. After 5V at the power input, the output is always 0V. They seem to have been damaged at some point during the import to Mexico, or they are defective.

Pros
  • Computer and accessories
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Good easy to use driver board

Good easy to use driver board. One thing I didn't realize was that when using an external power supply you still need to ground the data control side or the motor will remain in "hunting" mode. In this mode, removing a signal wire will cause the motor to run in one direction or the other.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Concerns me

Works reasonably well with Arduino

The quality of this product is to be expected from Adafruit. It was pretty easy to use and worked very well. I found that the PWM output was easily picked up by the mini audio amplifier that sat next to it on the breadboard. I removed the controller and that fixed the problem. I would suggest if you have an application like this you should use a shielded cable to connect the Arduino PWM pins to the motor controller.

Pros
  • Most people will be fine
Cons
  • Some difficulties
