excellent microphone - for a while!

Installed on my quadcopter to send sound back to my FPV monitor. Works great - great sound quality! The gain control works well and allows for perfect tuning. Update March 2018: Everything worked fine for a while. Then it just stopped sending sound to my monitor. The gain knob doesn't seem to matter. No crash, no water. just decided to stop between flights.

Great little board with a little problem

I use them in many of my speech recognition projects. I typically use them as connectors for the MAX4466 preamp chip, throw away the included mic, and plug in a first-order directional element (cardioid or dipole). The only problem is that the audio output line is not protected. If it comes in contact with a bias source the MAX4466 will fail immediately, so don't connect it to the TRS connector, you'd burn out the board the first time you connect it. They are suitable for mini XLR.

Excessive capacitive noise/effects at high sample rates

Causes capacitive baseline shift effects at high sample rates (40kHz). I'm guessing it's some weird interaction between the output of the amp and the sampling pin. It's like a spike and then an exponential decay for about 6ms, and the spike is about 5 times larger than the signal itself, making it useless for sound perception. Bought 2 to make sure it wasn't just an accident and the second (separate order and production batch) did the same. Other mics like this work just fine.

Maybe I just have a defective module.

I trust people so if this unit has good response at low frequencies but worse above 1kHz I have to assume I just got a bad block. The vendor's data says the electret microphone has a full frequency range (about 25Hz-20kHz), I wonder if the supporting circuitry has such a good wide range. My O'scope says no, but then again I have to assume my module is just a lemon until I get another one that confirms a correct output. The bottom line for me is that this device is best for low audio detection…

Great microphone for your Arduino projects!

I used this product to build a bass sensitive LED clock. Now my beats create amazing light shows! This Adafruit product provides basic information on how to use and implement it in an Arduino project. this makes it easier to get started. It can be used to determine the amplitudes of various frequencies using the Arduino FFT library (although in my testing it seems that higher frequencies show a lot of noise). You can also just use the device to record the "volume" of the sound and it can be…

Low Gain, Loud: Amplifier

Bought two and regretted every second. They should be used as a microphone amplifier for a radio transmitter. Have tried the device on 2 desktops and 3 sound cards (2 dongles and 1 on board) and also on a transmitter with all precautions (capacitor, resistor etc.). Bottom line, even at the top end of the trim, gain is low and tone above 2kHz seems reduced. Sometimes hiss is added for a reason. 4 1/2 stars, works as described

Actually 4 1/2 stars rather than 5. Pre-soldering the pins would have been nice but wasn't a big problem. It's a bit of a hassle to find sample code to test, but I'd recommend going to the actual Adafruit website and running the code provided. Yes, this microphone is not that sensitive. It is less than a quarter and does not pretend to have such sensitivity. BUT, at least for me, this is a very simple solution.
