Edward Tools Grommet Kit Rustproof Review

Sharp edges cut through the material I wore them on. Of course I used them. I bought them. They were cheap. I went to the hardware store for the next batch. Some are already rusting.

I was afraid I would have to buy a more "official" shim tool to make this work. But it was super easy. Tip: Perform all work on a hard surface such as concrete steps. I put a cutting board down so the concrete doesn't crack.

I only needed 4 grommets and didn't want to spend a lot. The biggest problem with this is the hole punch. Put simply, it doesn't work. I hit it as hard as I could and it still didn't cut a clean hole. Installing the grommets was easy.

The bushings themselves are fine but the little hole cutter becomes useless after about three holes. Other stand and clasp are ok. If you hit the grommets too hard they will really come loose. This can usually be corrected by flipping the bushing in the "anvil" and hitting it on the other (wrong) side.

The stamp for this kit will not go through cotton fabric, not even in one layer. It only provides a cutting guide line. Also, the bushings don't line up properly for a clean finish. I was so excited to receive this kit but then it was delayed 2 days from the expected date. Overall just not satisfied. That will do until I get a better kit.

First off let me say that for the price you probably can't beat this product. I shopped locally and it was significantly less money. The grommets and the tools to install them are great. The only problem I had was with the hole punch, it wasn't sharp at all, it didn't even pierce a layer of fabric. I ended up using it to mark the fabric and then using the exacto knife to cut a hole based on the hole punch mark. If the punch was a little better it would be 5 stars but it's still great quality.

I bought these bushings for use at sea - a DIY kayak sail. I was specifically looking for brass bushings that I knew would not rust in salt water. The product name said "Stainless Brass Metal Grommets" so I ordered these. A few months after completing the sail I was dismayed to see rust on the grommets after a few outings. Then I took the magnet and saw that it was attracted to the magnet. This shouldn't have happened if it was real brass. This product is misleading so BEWARE!

In early March 2020 I bought a large (10 x 3ft) vinyl banner for my outdoor jewelry stand (bad timing! ) Great, but kinda I forgot to order the one with brass bushings which made it useless. I ordered this kit to add grommets. It worked (mostly) great. Real eyelets are great; durable and well made. You install in seconds. The only problem I have is the hole punch that comes with the kit. I had to hang moving blankets on some of the walls for soundproofing. Blanket nailing/pinning absolutely ruined the fabric, moving blankets are pretty cheap stuff.
