Description of Highly Effective General Finishes Flat Out Flat Topcoat - Quart Size

Do not apply clear topcoats over bright white paint, as yellowing may occur due to a reaction to the substrate. Light color paints may also experience yellowing due to topcoat application, but it will less noticeable. Preserves the look, feel and color of chalk paint and milk paint. Vastly improves durability. Water-based, easy to use, warm soapy water cleanup.

Works perfectly. good for polyurethanes, shellac and lacquer

I bought a kitchen table from Restoration Hardwared - unsealed reclaimed wood and read countless blog/web posts on how best to seal and protect a table without losing its looks. (Restoration Hardware recommends nothing to do with wood. ?) I read a few posts that suggested using Flat Out Flat as a good option, so I went with it. The product is very easy to apply and I applied several layers. When fully cured, it literally has a flat surface and barely, just, barely changes the tone of the wood…

I'll go and cry a little in the corner.

I am so disappointed with this product (imagine hanging my head and tears shed). I used Dixie Bell's pretty blue paint to paint the sideboard but wanted to make sure it was well protected (the wax just isn't strong enough). Instead of Polycryl I bought this one because. Gen. Fin. The video made it so easy to use. Should I stick to my way? (insert creative swear words here). I've followed all the instructions, watched at least five videos, and yet the post-sanding streaks between the second coat

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • No instructions

Outstanding product: polyurethanes, shellac and lacquer

I must say that I am very satisfied with this product. This is the first time I'm using it and I'm very happy with it so far. It's a bit pricey for the size, but I got more than I paid for it. It lives up to its name, absolutely flat. I've always used a water-based polyurethane matte finish, but sometimes when I applied more than one coat it looked silkier than the matte finish with white streaks. I applied 3 coats of Flat Out Flat to this piece knowing I would use it often and it still looks…

  • Elegant design

Best solution in my DIY life

I seriously LOVE this cover! We made this table for our country style kitchen and all the wood in our house is either aged or matte so I knew I didn't want the occasional shiny table but also didn't want raw/exposed wood. For our dining table, I didn't even know I could get a matte top coat! So, I saw this, saw the great reviews and I'm really glad I got it! Adds the PERFECT top coat. I applied 3 coats, it dries fairly quickly and it's important not to "overcomb" like it says on the tin so just

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Not High Performance Topcoat

This is NOT a High Performance Topcoat (HPTC). If you want something more permanent, first apply 2 coats of HPTC in a satin or semi-gloss finish, then apply another coat of that. All of the products in this range are a little shinier than you would expect or the label would suggest. It can pull tannins out of the wood even on painted surfaces and leaves a stained surface, especially on light shades. You run the risk of rubbing browns and reds through the paint, which is less likely once you've…

Pros
  • Great for Me
Cons
  • Periodicity
