Great drive for the price.

Daughter messes up Coors Light on old HP. The keys were recovered but the system was slow and finicky. Every hard drive "test" I've run has shown that everything is fine. For a very small price, however, I was able to follow my hunch. This installs, Windows 10 and BAM installed! The calculator is back! Great ride at a great price.

Cons
  • Low maintainability

So far so good for the price.

I wasn't sure if they were refurbished drives but I received 2 identical new drives (verified by manufacture date and SMART data) made in Korea (not China!) by Clover Hitech. They have a website but it's in Korean. The drives have been tested so far and appear to perform just like other consumer 2.5-inch 5400RPM drives. They're quiet, stay cool when idling, and only get a little warm under heavy use. They were made by Revain and sold to Hard Drive Geeks. They were well packaged, sealed in…

Cons
  • Big and chunky

No complaints here.

Honestly, the word "universal" puts me off, but I went with this drive anyway as it's only a few bucks over 500GB. The drive is working very well so far. I seem to have received a Korean brand disc. In fact, you have about 595 GB of free storage space. Much better than the 465GB you get if you buy the 500GB. I'm honestly quite satisfied.

Cons
  • Compatibility

As advertised for data storage

Is this the best deal on amazon.com for this legacy technology? Yes. Is this product exactly what I expected? Yes. Works great for what it is. First I formatted the boot to full capacity, checked the disk space. Then reformatted and booted to full capacity, checked disk space and finally formatted again. Passed this test every time. Do I feel like an idiot paying $25 for obsolete equipment that I can literally pick up in a landfill because people throw that stuff away? Of course. But I knew all

As a cheap replacement ok, but noisy!

Bought two years ago because my main laptop hard drive failed. If you know how to install there is no problem. I give this 3 stars because it's noisy and slow. The speed I expected but it was still very slow. Definitely not for any laptop over $200. I replaced it 2 years later with a cheap 120GB SSD from Microcenter that sells for less than $20. Much faster, especially when working with Linux. I will one day buy a docking station and use it as a backup drive.

Cons
  • Not everything fits

Balanced Buy: Datastore

The "Noise Level" rank refers to how quiet it is, not how loud it gets. hahaAnyway niece got win10 laptop; but the joke was only a 32gb hdd, but the hdd is not ssd. so a good substitute. fast image authenticated as HDD replacement; used an external reader to transfer her files to a new hard drive. At the moment, the error of running out of disk space is gone. Yes I know it was supposed to be an SSD replacement if the laptop was worth that kind of upgrade it would have gotten it but their laptop

PS3 fixed internal hard drives

just installed and restored PS3 no longer stutters. should have been replaced long ago. seems a bit noisy compared to another hard drive, is that bad/good, is that normal? UPDATE August 17th: Stars removed, PS3 is working fine but not even a month later, not sure now, I think the disc is already going bad (or maybe it was never good to begin with). The PS3 worked fine but had trouble restoring the filesystem or rebuilding the database, it just seems to freeze and nothing happens. Initially, it…

  • Crumpled package

Will buy another if needed

I installed this drive in my CCTV DVR to replace the 200GB drive. It looks and feels like any Seagate, WD, or high-end model, but at a fraction of the cost. The connections are also reliable. My cheap DVR recognized it straight away, formatted it with no problems, and started recording with no problems. I can now set the frame rate to 30 fps and it has over 8 days of continuous security video on it now. The DVR is in a garage without air conditioning where the temperature exceeds 90 degrees…

Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

UPDATE: the drive in the laptop has been working for 16 months. The laptop fell several times during operation, which could only affect the drive. I kept running this program that was breaking the drive on a daily basis and it worked great. Suddenly the laptop became very slow to the point where it was useless so I shut it down. I don't know what caused the error, whether it was drive related or not, but it worked great for 16 months for $25 in very harsh conditions. I needed a cheap drive to…
