Description of 🔥 Heat Set Insert Tip for M3: 30 Qty Inserts Compatible with Hakko FX-888D and Weller SP40NUS Irons

Designed and manufactured in the USA. Made by Virtjoule, this is the original long shank tip for the Hakko FX888D iron. If you see others with this shape not made by Virtjoule, they are copy cats. Longer shank than other tips allows you to reach deeper into 3D printed parts and tight corners to install heat-set inserts without touching your iron and melting the plastic. Installation tip works better than soldering iron tip since conical tips can catch on the insert and accidentally pull the insert out while melting the plastic and ruin your part. This tip works with inserts that are sized M3. 30xM3 inserts are in the package. M3 is a popular size for Arduino circuit board hole mounts. Compatible with some Weller irons like the SP40NKUS. No other tips are compatible with as many soldering irons. Other tips are not compatible with Hakko irons. These installation tips slide over the ceramic heating element of the Hakko irons, just like the soldering iron tip, while still fitting in the 1/4" chamber of ST Series tips Weller irons. We have not tested every possible soldering iron and most makers have dozens of models that will not be compatible. Check your compatibility before ordering.

Can't go back!: Parts & Accessories

A must have for the DIY enthusiast. I've used a standard soldering iron for inserts before and have never been completely satisfied. But this bit makes it easier to insert projects.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Available in white only

Fits most Chinese soldering irons.

These threaded inserts work great and install in seconds. The soldering iron tip fits my Chinese soldering iron perfectly. Just make sure your soldering iron has a screw cap, such as B. Aoyue or Yihua soldering irons available from Revain.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Wrinkled

Nice to have but not essential

Tips not compatible with Weller WESD51D Digital Soldering Station. I placed the spare bit in the drill chuck and rotated it on the belt sander to convert the bit into a single step cylinder perfect for pressing in the M3 inserts. Stock tips are around $2.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Only available in black

Excellent heat setting tips for M3 inserts

These work great with my soldering iron for inserting M3 threaded brass inserts into plastic. They allow for much more accurate installation of inserts compared to a traditional soldering iron tip. They will benefit a lot from incorporating inserts into 3D printer parts!

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Appearance

Easy to work with parts and accessories

Have 30 inserts in an insert tip pocket in a 3D printed "tray". The tip fits well with my cheap soldering iron ("TFLY Professional"). At the lowest temperature (250℃), the inserts heat up in seconds and can easily be inserted into holes around 4mm in diameter. Have used it in PLA printing and still do and all inserts are holding up well.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Perfect fit for Hakko FX-888D

Works great! The tip fits my Hakko HX-888D iron perfectly. First I tried using my standard iron tip and it didn't work at all. I ended up with excess melted plastic and it messed up the internal threads on the insert. This tip has a flat end that works much better! So save your time and get the right tool for the job.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Minor issues

As always, be careful.

This is a brass insert that replaced the standard nut on the end of the bolt and worked great for my project. A nice touch for your DIY projects. Even elegant. But be careful with the size of the intended insertion point; The seller stated that the outer size may vary from lot to lot. It's better to have it in hand before cutting or printing the target.

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Unsafe

Nice bunch! - Spare parts and accessories

The tip on my Hakko FX-888D is a bit loose but functional. It covers the ceramic element, which is an important part. All in all, I highly recommend this set. The inserts I received (February 2021) worked well with a simple countersink with a 4mm top diameter, 4mm depth, 3.5mm bottom diameter and 7.15 degree angle. I hope the seller will release the M2.5 version of this kit!

Pros
  • Soldering and soldering accessories
Cons
  • So far so good

Ideal for the first time!

I first heard about these threaded heat shrink fittings when I was getting into 3D printing. Now I'm trying my hand at low power LED lasers and working with 1/8" acrylic to make mounts for single board computers. This "kit" was reasonably priced and the soldering iron tip that came with it worked great! I'm only interested in the 3mm size now so that was perfect for me. The included videos were short but told a story and were helpful. Well done!

Pros
  • Welding and Soldering
Cons
  • Legacy Model

A little too small to fit on my heating element in my iron

I have a Yihua 936 which uses the same attachments as the more popular irons of this type. Other nibs I've bought in the past have fit without issue, but this one was (barely) too small for it. After a few minutes of wrapping the drill with sandpaper I was able to set it up properly. I believe mine had a hole that was too small, not that it was a compatibility issue with my hardware. The inserts appear to be normal, although the size is not right for my application (Voron v2.4 3D printer…
