Heavy grinding of the sole with deep grooves out of the box. Blade also racked up a lot of points. I knew my carpentry and sharpened the sole on an oil stone and then on a Diamond stone. The blade was good enough to hit 1000 diamonds. Removes heavy paint from critical spots and ready to use. Generally a good tool for the money, can't complain.

The only complaint I've seen about this tool is that there are some machining marks on the base plate. They are, but I don't see any impact on usage. And I'm sure they'll be gone on the whetstone in a few minutes. It was sharp enough out of the box to just get it to work. I like it and will probably go with the curved base.

Well shaped. Good paintwork. The sole was relatively easy to straighten and the iron had a sharp blade. I have a feeling the heat treatment was a bit off as the edge is short lived. I don't like the aluminum chipbreaker locating screw either, but it works well. The tool works well, is reliably mounted. If you're not willing to set up and maintain hand tools, this isn't for you.

I had to smooth the sole a bit, sand down some paint and polish the blade, but neither took too long. Once that's done, this thing slides in like nothing ever happened! Highly recommended, first-class workmanship and finish. It's one of my most used tools at the moment. The only thing I could do differently is give it a different coloring, but in a way it looks pretty unique. This is the right tool for woodworking, so it expects you to have a sharpening system ready. but it will work out of the
