Good drive but not great

I used this drive as an external drive for photo editing in Lightroom. It's a great drive, but it's not as fast as the description says when you're moving thousands of small files. Pros: - Excellent value for money - As a backup drive, it's really fast for a spinning drive. It really survives a fall from belt height. Cons: - Very slow in Lightroom - even with USB-C. The product says "waterproof " but in my experience it's not.

Purchased on 18th November 2017. I'm a DJ and I was at a concert when the weather turned bad and it started raining. External drive damaged by water. I've read about a 3 year limited warranty and a product that says it's "waterproof", obviously not because now when I plug in the drive it just beeps instead of clicking which could be worse could. I packed up the hardware asap so I didn't think the rain had taken a toll on it, but it won't even boot on my laptop anymore. This is "waterproof" for…

Bought two, both had problems

We bought two 8TB versions of this RAID. I was a bit worried when both boxes were opened earlier. They were unsealed, one had coiled cord and the other had zip ties. The first one just couldn't mount at all. We tried a 27-inch iMac, a Dell M3800, and a Dell AIO to be sure, both with and without an additional power cord. It just doesn't show up as connected. The second is actually installed, with an ultra-low transfer rate of 24Mbps. We found that the drive was formatted and named "Mothership"…

Pros
  • Quick swap
Cons
  • Makes me angry

Negligible learning curve

This drive is full of useful documents. I didn't know this before I formatted my drive, but I still set everything up the first night I got it. At first I just didn't understand how to do it right. I use a MAC and my wife had to show me the invisible partition because at first it didn't seem like my drive was showing the full capacity data limit. All in all I went through the setup and I love this device! My wife wants me to upgrade to a wireless wi-fi drive and I might do that in the future…

Just realized they sent me a "broken " 4TB drive

I've had this drive since late July 2018, it works fine, that's not the problem. My problem is I'm working on backing up all my external hard drives and I spent a minute looking through confused information about this Lacey. I bought this 4TB Lacie and I currently have a 1.12TB folder. This is the only folder on the entire drive. While the hard drive says the maximum storage is 4TB, it says I only have 977.93GB left and used 3.02TB of storage. which is not possible as I only have a 1.12 TB…

I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR SUCH A COMPANY!

Bought this drive from a LaCie rep (got 3 more of these drives with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0. Never had a problem until I bought this one. It just won't work with standard disk utilities of the operating system, but it actually prompts you to use their "Seagate, obviously not LaCie" utility. Terrible experience. Never buy this drive. When using LaCie on Mac, Linux and Windows with OLD LaCie - never had a problem. Seagate screwed it up"The best line of products from the company. But what's new?

Pros
  • Great selection

  • Hard to say

Erroneous reviews about custom, obviously bought.

I purchased this drive from a LaCie representative (have 3 more of these drives with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0. Never had a problem until I bought this one. Not only is it not recognized by standard operating system drive utilities , but it also actually prompts you to use their "Seagate, obviously not LaCie" utility. Terrible experience. Never buy this drive. Use LaCie on Mac, Linux and Windows with the OLD LaCie - never had a problem.Seagate messed up the company's best product lines. But…

Pros
  • Special Offer
Cons
  • Reliability

Pros: In a RAID 0 configuration (striping) I get faster transfers than single engine drives. The built in SD card slot is a nice touch. The drive is carefully packaged and comes with cables for multiple power and data connections. The device feels just as durable as the other drives in the LaCie Rugged line. Cons: I have yet to find a USB port that provides enough power to power the drive without the included power adapter, which has a shorter cord than I would like. The drive also heats up…
