📏 Klein Tools 5196 Tape Measure Holder: Genuine Leather, Large Size, Durable Review

I bought a medium sized holder and it fits the Stanley Powerlock 25' strap perfectly. The holster's construction feels solid and I can be sure my tape measure won't break while I'm working or climbing scaffolding.

Vegetable tanned leather is bone dry. Almost cardboard in its dryness. In order to make the tape holder flexible, durable and waterproof, you need to feed it a large amount of mink oil and coat it with a paste of mink oil and wax. (Or your oil of choice). Once you've done this you have a good looking, hard wearing product that will last for decades with proper care.

This tape measure holder was a great addition to my tool belt. It fits my 25 year old Stanley Fat Max and my 25 year old Milwaukee stallion. Like a builder doing all sorts of jobs. I'll stick with a regular carpenter's apron style tool belt. I added my own hammer loop and this tape measure holder and now I have everything I need. Klein Tools knows what is important. No need to hold any tape measure other than this one.

The flat back of the product is a normal thickness which should be strong. The front, which holds the measuring tape, is made of thin, half-thick leather. The $1 saved as a result made the item unusable for use on the job site. Some design decisions don't make sense. Surprised that a quality manufacturer like Klein is selling this junk. Doubling the thickness of the leather on the front half would make it a great product. Designed by the counter, not the retailer.

This strap holder is great if you know what you're doing. When you work in commercial construction, you need quality tools, bags and holders for everything. This is the best strap holster I have ever owned and will be the only holster I will use. To be honest, it could take my entire career as long as I take care of it.
