Description of 🔤 Melissa & Doug Alphabet Sound Puzzle: Enhance Vocabulary Skills

See and hear the alphabet with this 26-piece wooden Alphabet Sound Puzzle with brightly colored uppercase letters. 10" x 13.5" x 0.8" sturdy wooden puzzle board (AAA batteries required, not included). Pictures under pieces for easy matching and enhanced learning opportunities; letters sit slightly above the puzzle board for easy grasping. TIP: Puzzle has light-activated sensors; for best results, expose the sensor by removing a piece in a brightly lit room, then make the sound play by replacing the piece in the board. Makes a great gift for preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, for hands-on, screen-free play.

granddaughter likes

I wanted to get some letters for my granddaughter as she is interested in the words in her books (she is 1 year old) and will be pointing to the words that will be read to her. My daughter really likes wooden toys so I took screenshots of the ones I found to see which ones she prefers. The granddaughter chose this one. I honestly didn't even know it had sound when I ordered it. She was very happy when she arrived and had to call Namau and show me around. It's perfect and it also has a "w for…

Doesn't work properly

The first thing we noticed is that it's not the one in the photo. Second, the voice doesn't work for 70% of the letters. And randomly says a letter (out of the 5 letters she actually says) when there is a small shadow over the board. As many others have said, it's a deep male voice devoid of any enthusiasm. I wouldn't mind if it works. But it is a pity. Note that this does not work with batteries (requires 2x AAA) and does not work properly with brand new batteries (tested with a few different…

Not very fun Good for peg puzzle

This was not very fun for my child. At first I thought he sang the alphabet as soon as all the letters were in place because at the very bottom of the board it was written "Now I know my alphabet, next time don't sing along." However, this is not the case. The voice reading the letter is also monotonous and mispronounces the words associated with the letters. Also, some of the words they chose were strange. For example, "nails" for N. Nails are dangerous, so "beautiful" or "bite" might be…

Meh, not what I expected

I thought some of my frustration was due to my own error, I didn't read the description carefully enough, but I assumed the musical notes on the puzzle Design would be accompanied by music with the letters. No music, just a male voice yelling "x for xylophone" over and over, and I mean over and over, really. The sensors were so sensitive that random letters didn't even hit the puzzle piece or even my son's hand, which I find confusing when trying to type the alphabet. The parts themselves have…

Scoreboard with bonus.

I bought 2 of these as gifts for two children who just turned 1 year old. I gave my child a magnetic board for his first birthday. But they don't do that anymore. I liked the fact that the holes for the letters are the same shape as the letters themselves (which is what I was looking for). And letters made of thick wood that last a long time. They are also slightly raised for easy picking off the board. The advantage of this letter board is that it appeals to the child. It says the name of the…

Worth the few dollars I paid for it.

I had high hopes for this letter puzzle from Melissa and Doug. As a kindergarten teacher and my nephew's teacher, I love finding smiles and educational games for kids. Below is my rating: Pros: - Excellent graphics under the letters. My nephew (2.5 years old) was very happy with it - The size of the letters is just right for small hands - Interesting enough Cons: - The hole for the puzzle piece is not deep enough to hold it securely. As my nephew's hand slides across the puzzle in search of the

Great learning tool

I have read the reviews on this product carefully. My 3 year old daughter was working on a similar puzzle (no sound) in the library and loved it and asked to have it on her Christmas list. Santa brought it to her and I wanted people to know that despite some negative reviews I think it's a good learning tool for a young preschooler. One of the things people talked about was how annoying the puzzle was when not in use and when someone scanned it the voice came out. I have ours on a shelf with…
