Perfectly burns M DISC BD-R discs with macOS Sierra

I am happy with everything I have bought from OWC and this is no exception. It's a really good recorder. Heavy chassis and built like a tank, which helps minimize vibration. You can definitely hear the drive spinning, but that's true of every optical drive I've ever used (starting with my external APC SCSI CD drive in the Year 1994). There is a power switch on the back of the drive so it can only be turned on when needed. This does not turn off the power supply, which continues to draw a smallโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Package Contents: 16x external Blu-ray burner; 0.6 meter (24 inch) USB 3.0 cable; external power cable; User Guide
Cons
  • Unusable Features

Buyers beware Lifetime doesn't exceed two years

It's okay, the LG recorder just went from a Blu-ray player/recorder to an expensive DVD/CD player for no damn reason. I last used it as a Blu-ray burner to back up my files two weeks ago. I paid $130 for just two years of service. Don't bother calling OWC customer service (because it's just a chassis manufacturer/dealer) or LG because they won't replace this drive after a year, maybe not even that long. WH16NS40 is obsolete according to LG repair. You can also choose not to, or take the riskโ€ฆ

Buy knowing you're getting a good quality BD reader/writer in a great case.

Product: OWC Mercury Pro 16X Blu-ray, 16X DVD, 48X CD Read/Write Solution Yes, you can buy the same optical enclosure for $49 and then your own LG WH16NS40 drive for $76.99 Install Revain Dollars. And save $3.89. Why bother if you don't like putting things together. I don't know where to buy the new LG WH16NS40 for $55.89. There are technical problems. Read the "Product Description" section. it's all there. Yes, the device I received has an LG WH16NS40 built in and I am completely satisfiedโ€ฆ

Works great burning M DISC BD-Rs with macOS Sierra

I am satisfied with everything I have purchased from OWC and this is no exception. This is a really good burner. The body is heavy and constructed like a tank, which helps keep vibrations to a minimum. You can definitely hear the hard drive spinning, but that's true of every optical drive I've ever used (starting with my APC external SCSI CD drive in 1994). There is a power switch on the back of the drive so you can turn it on only when you need it. This does not turn off the power supplyโ€ฆ

Cons
  • Long Delivery Time

Works, Memory Preserved for Future Generations

I have successfully burned a dozen BDR M discs with this drive and all have passed 100% integrity checks. Everything went perfectly. I used K3B on Manjaro Linux (KDE) for software. The USB case works perfectly plug-and-play, and the built-in drive had a 100 percent success rate fully engraving a dozen write-once M-Discs. (I even created ECC files for ISOs with dvdisaster version 0.79.9). I might update this post to see how well it works with BDXL (100GB) M discs. For those of us archivingโ€ฆ
