IHC 4 Cylinder Ignitor Upgrade: PerTronix 1442 Delivers Enhanced Performance Review

This product was so easy to install that I replaced the entire ignition system, distributor, coil and coil mount. With the old system I had to turn off the light to see the spark, with this and the flamethrower coil you might want to wear rubber gloves when holding the spark plug! I hope it doesn't succumb to the heat like electronics so only reliability is my concern but only time will tell but today I'm giving these guys 5 stars just because 6 wasn't an option.

Ordered Electronic Ignition for my Cub Tractor to improve starting and performance. The replacement was easy and after replacing the tips and capacitor my tractor starts much better. The only problem I had was remembering to turn the key off when the tractor stalls and stalls as the electronic ignition and coil will be destroyed if left on when the engine is not running. This isn't a new problem, but coil breakage has always been a problem when the key is left cranking.

Easy to install. It took longer to read the instructions and then install. I had glasses that were a year old. The tractor stopped and wouldn't start. Now tap the button and it works. If you've driven it around quickly with a wheel harrow, there's a big difference in performance. Kit includes non-solid copper connectors. Easy installation. Works perfectly. Tractor starts immediately. Works smoothly. Check out the Pertronix website. You may need to widen the spark plug gap a bit. My tractor manual says 0.023”. I think Pertronix is talking about a 0.07 increase. I actually increased my size to .033" and that seems to work really well. It's also my second device. later I don't see how they can claim to sell this as fitting a 4 cylinder IHC engine when it clearly will not fit an IHC manifold. I ordered this for a Farmall Super H tractor. The black plastic housing that fits over the camshaft is too big for the dust cover. Without a dust cap, the distributor cap will not seat properly and the engine will fire like crazy. At the end of the day, you spend hours "modifying" these parts by drilling holes in the manifold dust cap (and ordering new ones)…

I installed this on a Farmall 300 to replace points/capacitors. Very easy to install. Pertronix provided everything necessary. The distributor used on this Farmall 300 required slight modification to fit in this kit. I had to make a 1" countersink on the back of the plastic ignition plate (plate under the rotor) about 1/16" deep and sand about 1/16" from the end of the included magnet cap. Pertronix kit.
