As a one-man chef, I was looking for a container in which I could collect odorless compostable food for several days. I love this bucket. I drove a full two weeks (when I finally filled up) and experienced no issues with flies or smell. I don't use this for compost but for cat litter. I only have one cat, but he quickly throws the kitty litter away, so in the past putting the litter in the bin because of the smell very often meant taking the garbage out. The smell doesn't permeate this bin that much, which means I only have to take the bin out once a week at most! There are small holes in the top of the container so the smell can still come out that way, but if you don't want that you can probably just tape the holes over. The
