Excellent readability compared to competitors.

This refractometer is easy to read. The contrast between the dark blue and white display is far superior to any of its competitors in this price range that are stamped "atc".

Made of aluminum and will rust easily. I bought this one thinking it was the same as my other refractometer but noticed a difference in weight. The heavier one was copper, which is very resistant to rust, and this one is cheap aluminum. The difference lies not only in corrosion resistance, but also in strength and durability. I do not recommend this one, especially since it is used for salt water. If you store this, be sure to wipe dry after each use. All models weighing half a kilo are made of

Doesn't hold calibration. I can't trust the results.

It loses calibration so quickly that 1) you have to calibrate it with a 35 ppt calibration solution before EVERY use, and 2) it loses calibration so quickly that you can't even trust the reading of the sample you get sometimes after calibration. Definitely don't trust that if you're calibrating to 0 ppt with distilled water. I would only consider using it if you calibrate to 35ppt immediately with a 35ppt seawater calibration solution immediately prior to the aquarium test. drift approaches 1…
