Not for serious home use

They aren't as durable as some others I've had. On top of that, when I used it to try to pull the screw out, it wasn't tight enough no matter how hard I tightened it. The teeth on the vise jaws were bent and he couldn't hold on tight enough to remove the bolt. Very disappointing. For serious consumer purposes, they don't seem up to the task.

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Every toolbox should have one of these

I'm 64 and my dad had one that he taught me as a kid (a long time ago). He gave me his instrument and three rounds later I lost it. Went to Revain to buy me another one that I needed for two jobs: turning a threaded pipe I couldn't move and a caliper mounting bolt on my mountain bike that had frozen and had a stripped hex head. The key didn't slide on the tube and I had enough leverage to move it and remove it. Same story with a frozen and stripped caliper bolt on my bike - I was able to remove

  • Great overall performance

  • Safety

The same excellent quality as 40 years ago.

Well, if you don't have it in your toolbox, it's not done yet! I've been sharpening wrenches for over 40 years. I worked as an ASE certified technician for a while. I've had Irwin Vice grips since I rode bikes as a kid, well maybe they didn't have them back then, I used my dad's. But in short they are of the same quality as I expected. Now they look the same as they did 40 years ago. They should not be missing in any tool box.

Not what it used to be (but what is?).

This is not the same as the vise previously made. The quality and feel of them are "cheap" at best. I will use them because I need them but with little hope that they will last as long as the last set I bought (which I keep in the salon) over ten years ago. I understand that things like this are often made in China. However, it is not clear to me why a manufacturer cannot be more proud of the quality of the product they produce. I think that's what happens when you own a brand name that has…

Quality product made in China like iPhone

I am opening a shop in our new warehouse and of course I need to replenish it with tools. I bought this model because it is the same model that I bought at home about 20 years ago. I know a lot of people hate anything made in China. Everyone hated things made in Japan in the sixties and early seventies. I placed this new pair alongside my 20 year old pair and apart from minor signs of wear they look, weigh and feel virtually identical. Grip strength appears to be the same from reasonable…
