I started using ferrules for almost all strands. I have used them successfully with Wage lever nut wire connectors and even with crimp contacts and receptacles with MC4 connectors. The advantage is that the wires are connected very tightly and each strand is securely fastened. After crimping, the stranded wire is completely closed and the resulting connection is not interrupted by a wire break. They work great for me. I use this type of terminal quite often, I have a much more expensive brand of hex pliers but I needed a square end for a specific application. Bought them to try, they looked good in the photos and came with a large set of terminals. The terminals are exactly the same as the expensive kits I've used and work with all of my crimping tools. This ferrule crimping tool works way better than I expected for the price. At this point I've used all sizes of ferrules and the tool crimps them all pretty well. Anything from 20-10ga worked well. 8ga was a bit lengthy for the big red lug, resulting in uneven crimps, although I doubt the red lug is designed for many stranded 8ga strands (e.g. car audio power cables).
