The "S " on the CD-S2100 seems to stand for "suboptimal ".

If you're looking for a better deal than a CD/SACD player, keep looking. On the other hand, if you like wasting money, feel free to check it out. I bought this player new for about $3,000 and it broke in less than 4 years. In addition, even for the last few hours of operation, it has occasionally had random issues (e.g. intermittent audio cuts, random inability to read discs, etc.). I just want significant problems to surface before the warranty expires. Had Yamaha been willing to back this…

A small but noticeable improvement over my old $800 Rotel.

I replaced a Rotel RCD 1072 with this unit. The Rotel is very good, but I needed a deck that could play Sakde and also wanted better performance on Redbook CDs. I have received these things. The Yamaha has more 3D depth than the Rotel and is more relaxed (some reviewers called the Yamaha "polite," which is a good description). On some CDs, however, I prefer Rotel's more straightforward presentation. An odd Yamaha feature is the adjustable dpll. It states that the lower the bandwidth setting…

This player has been on the market for years and has had problems since it was first introduced. I can't believe Yamaha has the audacity to offer this. I bought a brand new device 2 years ago and the problems started right away. And they continue to this day. Known issue: DAC (Digital Analog Decoder) in it "jumps". It turns on and off during playback until it's nice and hot. Then it seems to settle down and stop jumping - most of the time. But you have to babysit this player to play. And for 3…
